Ekiti Group Demands Explanation Over Deptuty-Governor’s Whereabouts

A Non Governmental organisation in Ekiti State, the Ekiti Justice Group (EJG) has demanded explanation from the State Government over the disappearance of the Deputy-Governor, Mrs. Funmi Olayinka from the State since last month. The group said Mrs. Olayinka has been out of the country for over one month now with no one offering explanation as to where she travelled

to and the purpose of her trip.

EJG said in a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti today and signed by its Director of Communications and Strategy, Comrade Gbenga Babawibe that “Even though we have been reliably informed that the deputy governor is presently in the United States of America (USA), where she travelled to last month, it is important that the State government explain to Ekiti people the purpose on which they are spending $720 per day as estacode on the deputy governor since she travelled.”

The group, which raised alarm over the wasteful spending of the State fund alleged that; “Apart from $720 that the deputy governor gets as estacode per day on a foreign trip that does not have any bearing on the development of the State, other aides that travelled with Mrs. Olayinka also get estacode running into thousands of dollars.

“Also, while Ekiti State Governor and Deputy Governor Lodge in Abuja are left unused, the State presently maintains six suites both at Abuja Sheraton Hotel and Nicon Hotel, Abuja. Ekiti State pays several millions of naira to maintain these permanent suites per month.”

While condemning the deputy governor’s unending trip to the US, EJG which alleged that the deputy governor was in the US for purpose not related with the State government, said; “The Dr. Kayode Fayemi-led Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) government must inform Ekiti people officially where their deputy governor is and the reason for her trip.

“The people must also be told why their resources are being expended to pay the deputy governor for abandoning her duty post to carry out functions that do not have any bearing on the State.”
