Ekweluka Replaces Amobi At NBET

By Dayo Omoogun

President Muhammadu Buhari has given approval for the sack of the Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company, Dr. Marilyn Amobi

and appointed Dr. Nnaemeka Ekweluka, who until now was the General Counsel and Secretary to the organization, as her replacement. The sack and replacement are with immediate effect.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Power, Mamman Saleh, in a press statement released on Monday.

It will be recalled that Amobi had earlier been fired in December 2019 by the Minister but the Presidency intervened and reversed the Minister’s decision.
This development comes barely a month after the sudden sack of the former managing director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, (TCN), Mohammed Gur, which generated a lot of controversies.

The statement said her sack is part of the realignment/ reorganization being carried out in the power sector but sources say that it might not be unconnected with a recent report in the media which stated that she had continued to breach the Code of Conduct provisions for public officers by running her business both in the UK and in Nigeria while holding office as Managing Director of NBET. This is contrary to provisions of the code of conduct for public officers.

The new helmsman, Ekweluka, is a lawyer with over 21 years of experience traversing academics, private practice and the power sector, according to the statement.
