Electricity Act 2023 Will Transform Electricity Sector – Gov. Makinde

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has described the Electricity Act 2023 as a game changer that will transform the electricity sector in the country.

Makinde stated this when he received the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, on Monday in Ibadan.

He said Oyo State would key into the transformation agenda in the sector, by signing its own version of the law.

“For us in Oyo State, the game changer is actually the Electricity Act 2023, and we will take full advantage of the law.

“As a matter of fact, we have started taking advantage of the new electricity law and I should be signing the Oyo State version of the law by the end of this week or early next week, because it has been passed by the House of Assembly.

“Honourable Minister, let me give you the assurance that we don’t see division and politics when it comes to the issue of governance and ensuring that we provide good living conditions for our people.

“We don’t also see any problem in giving credit to whoever deserves it. If it is the Federal Government that will assists us to get anything, we are ready to work together.

“I’m giving you the assurance that we will give you all the support that will ensure that you succeed,” Makinde said

Earlier, Adelabu, said he was embarking on a nationwide visit to power installations, and that he chose to start with his home state.

Adelabu, also called for partnership and collaboration between his Ministry and the Oyo State Ministry of Energy and its Rural Electrification Board.

He said that one of the areas of collaboration is the provision of transformers to low-income areas, especially the rural communities in the state.

“I’m in Oyo state to discuss area of collaboration, area of cooperation area of partnership to move the power sector forward and deliver dividend of democracy to our people, whether at the State or at the federal level.

“We have all promised that we are going to bring affordable, reliable, stable, functional and uninterrupted power supply to our people.

“So, it is a joint responsibility and pledge to both the federal and the state government,” Adelabu said

He added that to achieve a constant power supply in the country, it is a gradual process and constant improvement

“All am promising is gradual, accelerated, and sustainable improvement on a daily basis, our target is that our today in power sector should be better than our yesterday, and our tomorrow should be better than today.

“If we can achieve this consistently over the next couple of years, we will witness significant improvement in power sector in Nigeria,” Adelabu said.
