The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEEs), has said that it has suspended its strike action embarked upon yesterday (Wednesday), to draw the attention of federal government to the plight of its members.
SHARPEDGENews, while confirming the frustration of Nigerians because of the lack of electricity in their homes noted that the declaration of state of emergency in the sector by the lawmakers seems to go down well with majority of NNigerians.
In a notice of suspension made privy to SHARPEDGENews, on Thursday morning, it said following a meeting with officials of the federal government, the union accepted to discontinue the one-day old strike action.
National President of NUEE, Comrade Joe Ajaero while confirming the outcome of the meeting admitted that the workers’ grievances have been well addressed.
“We have concluded deliberations and all issues were addressed but we are awaiting implementation.
Meanwhile, our strike action is suspended,” Ajaero said.
The strike action was occassioned with the expiration of the 21 days ultimatum issued by NUEE to the Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, to implement their demands.
They insisted that the failure of the minister to dialogue with the union before the ultimatum which lapsed midnight Tuesday, a nationwide blackout was imminent as electricity workers began indefinite strike Wednesday morning.
