The Public Complaints Commission (PCC) had said in order to address the discrimination against local engineers and craftsmen by foreign construction companies requires the involvement of various stakeholders.
The Commission while disclosing this in Abuja during an interactive forum, noted that stakeholders can promote fair policies and practices that protect the rights of local engineers and craftsmen in the country.
According to the commission, government agencies, private organizations, civil society groups, and the public are critical players in addressing the challenges.
However, the organisation maintained that governance and institutional reform require the involvement of various stakeholders, including government agencies, private organizations, civil society groups, and the public.
“Stakeholders are individuals or groups who have an interest or concern in an organization, institution or system. In the case of governance and institutional reform, stakeholders play a crucial role in ensuring that policies and practices are fair and equitable for all parties involved.
“In the context of eliminating discrimination against local engineers and craftsmen by foreign construction companies, the following stakeholders are particularly relevant:
“Private organizations such as construction companies and professional associations are also important stakeholders. These organizations can promote fair hiring practices and advocate for the rights of local engineers and craftsmen.
“Civil society groups, such as human rights organizations and advocacy groups, can also play a crucial role in promoting equitable policies and practices. These groups can raise awareness about discrimination and push for reforms that benefit local engineers and craftsmen.
“The public is perhaps the most important stakeholder in governance and institutional reform. The public can advocate for changes in policies and practices, and they can hold government agencies and private organizations accountable for their actions.
“Government agencies play a key role in setting policies and regulations that promote fair competition and protect the interests of local engineers and craftsmen. These agencies include the Ministry of Works, the Ministry of Labour and Employment, and the Nigerian Society of Engineers.
Meamwhile, it was also noted that the Public Complaints Commission can also play a crucial role in addressing public complaint in the country.
The commission also revealed that in order to eliminate discrimination, there was need to enforce existing laws and regulations, Promote fair hiring practices and provide training and career development opportunities. (NAN)
