Nigerian former High Commissioner to Australia, Professor Oluwadare Agbi, has died. Professor Olu Agbi,
as popularly known and addressed had battled acute kidney disease in the last six years. It was a major reason for his several trips to Germany in the last five year, to receive a unique form of dialysis and shunt a medical procedure for the diversion of blood flow. Olu Agbi, served on the governing council of Federal Polytechnic, Bida Manna State. He was appointed Dean Faculty of Arts, Ondo State University in 1989, he became Osuwa’s Deputy Vice Chancellor in 1990 and later moved to serve as Secretary to Ondo State government from 1992-1993 during the leadership of Governor Bamidele Olumilua.
He was a Professor of Diplomatic History of note. The Obasanjo administration appointed him High commissioner to Australia with concurrent accreditation to New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. He served in the capacity for three years before he was again posted as Nigerian Ambassador to Greece by Umaru Musa Yar’Adua government.
He has actively led the people of his clan, the Akure for socio-political upliftment. He was honored with the chieftaincy title of Asiwaju of Akure’s, by the Deji Oba Aladelusi Aladetoyinbo, Agbi died in the earlier hours of today at 73.
