Expatriate Kidnapped in Lagos

United States has said that an expatriate was kidnapped in Lagos, and warned its citizens in the country to be cautious.

According to Associated Press (AP), the US Consulate General in Lagos, Jeffrey Hawkins, issued the security warning on Sunday.
He said the kidnapping occurred Saturday night in Victoria Island, where many expatriates live.

The consulate general did not give the victim’s nationality or other details of the abduction.

The police could not immediately be reached for comment and police spokesman, Frank Mba, said he had not received reports of the kidnapping.

Kidnappings for ransom are common in Nigeria, but most have occurred in its oil-rich Niger Delta, and Lagos is not considered an abduction hotspot.

Northern Nigeria is also starting to see kidnappings linked to radical Islamic groups.
