Explosion Hits Akure Vicinity as Houses, Worship Centres Collapse

Reports reaching SHARPEDGNews say a deafening explosion rocked the airport axis, Ogbese-Owo express road in the early hours of today.

 

Mrs. Toyin Olugbenga, a resident of Akure, in a telephone conversation from Ogbese said several residential buildings, school, churches were submerged by an explosion suspected to be bomb blast.

She also hinted that over 200 persons are said to have submerged in the rubbles of the explosion, adding rescue services have been deployed to the scene as the vicinity is being cordoned.

According to her, the incident which happened less than a kilometre to Akure Airport, affected many residents of Eleyowo community, destroying completely a church and a school in the area.

The spot at which the the bomb or blast happened cut off the ever-busy Akure/Owo roadroad, hindering vehicular movement cutting off the ever-busy Akure /Owo road while many people were said to be injured, she added.

The sources and the cause of the explosion have put residents and government officials at bay as clue has been confirmed as being the cause.

However, sources say the explosion emanated from a broken vehicle allegedly conveying the bomb on its way to Owo from Akure.
