Explosions Rocks Akure, Destroys Schools, Church and Several Houses.

Many buildings were destroyed by the explosion which occurred along Akure/owo road in ilu Abo town, akure North Local Government Area of Ondo state.

 

The explosion which occurred about 1am on Saturday March, cut off the Akure/owo road, As of the time of this report, no death has been recorded but 50 persons were injured. According to a source the security chief who commented on how the event unfolded said a vehicle in a convoy transporting explosives to a storage facility in a neighboring state developed a fault while in transit along the akure owo road about 2km from the Akure airport,

The security personnel alongside other individuals transporting the merchandise noticed there was a smoke coming from the vehicle. After several attempts to extinguish the resulting fire failed the vehicle and its consignment ignited causing a massive explosion that was felt in Akure and its environment.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, stated via Twitter, I’ve been briefed by security agencies in the state concerning the loud blast that was heard in Akure I wil be at the scene to access on the advice of heads of our security agencies I ask that all citizens remain calm as we ascertain details of the incidence” He stated also that the present efforts are being made to ascertain if there are casualties.
