Family Demands Justice Over Killing of Segun Olatimilehin

The Gbagi community in Ibadan has been thrown into mourning following the killing of 35-year-old Segun Olatimilehin by gunmen on July 10, 2025.

Olatimilehin was reportedly attacked at his residence, No. 55B Airport Road, Gbagi, after kidnappers who had earlier abducted his brother, Babatunde, stormed the house in search of him.

Family sources said Babatunde escaped from the kidnappers’ den after being forcefully initiated into the group and the first attack on his family that led to the killing of his only son-during a violent home invasion. The tragic incident left the family devastated.
Unable to trace his whereabouts, the assailants allegedly targeted Segun, demanding that he disclose his brother’s hiding place before they shot him dead.

The suspects are still at large. The deceased, described by neighbours as an engineer and choir leader in his church, was said to be well-known for his calm disposition and community involvement.

Officials from the Gbagi Police Station confirmed that an investigation is underway.
“We are gathering all evidence and witness statements, and we are determined to ensure those responsible are brought to justice,” a police spokesperson said.

Grieving relatives have called for a thorough probe. “Our hearts are broken. He was a peaceful man who didn’t deserve to die this way. We just want justice,” a family member said.

Community leaders described the incident as a “terrible tragedy” and urged security agencies to expedite action. The family has filed a formal complaint with the police and is seeking legal representation.

Authorities have appealed to members of the public with useful information to contact the nearest police station.
