Father arrested for causing 2-month-old baby’s brain damage

A 33-year-old man was arrested on Monday for allegedly causing serious brain injury to his 2-month-old baby by violently shaking the infant.

He has been charged with child abuse and there are concerns that he may attempt to flee, prompting the Incheon District Court to issue an arrest warrant.

The incident is believed to have occurred at their home in Incheon earlier this month.

The father has confessed to shaking the baby hard while holding him in his arms. The infant is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital for a cerebral haemorrhage and a fractured rib.

The police investigated the man’s wife as a witness but found no evidence of her participation in the abuse.

Shaken baby syndrome is a condition that may result from forcefully shaking an infant under the age of 2. It can lead to a cerebral haemorrhage, a retinal haemorrhage, and other injuries, including rib fractures.
