‘Fayemi is inviting anarchy in Ekiti’ – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Southwest has warned the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi of the dire consequences of his continuos reign of terror against members of opposition parties in the State, saying; “the governor should not push the people to the level that they would react violently.”

The PDP, which decried yesterday’s invassion of the venue of a youths programme in Ado-Ekiti by thugs led by Fayemi’s Special Assistant on Internal Security, Deji Adesokan (Jaruu), said Fayemi’s action was not only tyrannical but animalistic.

In a statement issued today,  Zonal Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Hon. Kayode Babade said; “it is worrisome that Fayemi’s fear of losing the governorship seat that was purchased for him by his Lagos based godfather is driving him to the level of disrupting programmes organised to enlighten youths in Ekiti State, and the earlier he realises that no one can stop and idea whose time has come and that his actions are direct invitation to anarchy, the better for him.”

Babade, who said security agencies in the country must be put on notice on Fayemi’s political intolerance, said;  “The PDP in the Southwest will view and act strongly any act of harrassment, intimidation or attack against its members.”

He said it was curious that inspite of the presence of armed policemen and men of the State Security Service (SSS) at the venue of yesterday’s event, Fayemi’s thugs fired several gun shots and no one was arrested.

“We are curious that even with the presence of armed policemen and men of the SSS, the youths programme was disrupted with several gunshots fired by the Jaruu-led thugs, and no one was arrested.

“Is that an indication that security agencies in Ekiti State have turned themselves to appendages of the Fayemi-led government? And should we now conclude that Ekiti people can no longer gather together to discuss issues affecting them without being attacked by Fayemi’s thugs?

“Most importantly, can it be concluded that security agencies in Ekiti State can no longer guarantee the people’s rights to freedom of association and assembly, and that the people should resort to self-help?

“Today in Ekiti, if elections of executives of workers unions are not being disrupted by Jaruu and his thugs, leaders of workers unions will be either suspended, or lawful gathering of people will be disrupted.

“Isn’t this a sign of fear on the part of Fayemi and his Salamic government. And can he sustain this reign of terror without throwing Ekiti State into chaos?

“Fayemi must therefore be made to realise that by his naked display of political intolerance, he is inviting anarchy because the PDP will no longer tolerate any attack, harrassment or intimidation of our members,” Babade said.
