The Nigerian Correction service FCT Command, has formally handed over the structure and personnel of the proposed Borstal Training Institution, Gwagwalada Abuja, to its Principal Controller of Corrections, Caroline Ekemezie.
This was disclosed in a press statement issued to newsmen in Abuja and signed by the Public Relations Officer Borstal Training Institution, ASC Theresa Obi.
According to the statement, the official handing over held on the 9th of August 2023, was done by the Controller of Correction FCT Command Ibrahim Idris esq in company of some very senior officers from the Command and this was done after the inspection of site and structure to ascertain its readiness.
The Controller of Corrections FCT Command Ibrahim Idris Esq, while handing over urged the Principal and staff of the institution to be up and doing and adhere strictly to the extant rules guiding Borstal Training Institution across the globe in line with international best practices.
In her remarks, the principal of Borstal Training Institution, Controller of Corrections, Caroline Ekemezie appreciated the Controller of Corrections FCT Command for his efforts, assuring him and staff members of the Institution of her commitment to making the institution one of the best in the country.
“It is worth noting that this is one of the efforts of the Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa FCIMC, Mni, in advancing treatment of deliquents, reducing crime, and correcting the youths.
“As the tenure of our CGC has witnessed staff development and youth empowerment within the four walls of Nigerian Correctional Service and this has contributed to the overall peace and socioeconomic development of the nation,” the statement said. (NAN)
