FCT Election Appeal Tribunal Fixes Wed for Commencement of Sitting

The FCT election appeal tribunal will on Wednesday commence sitting on the election appeals sent to it.

The chairman of the panel, Justice Suleiman Belgore made this known on Monday at his ingural speech.

Belgore said as the election tribunal is about rounding up, appeals arising from the election tribunal would be look at expeditiously.

He said that in discharging their responsibility, they will be guided by the 1999 constitution as amended and the electoral law, 2022.

added that the panel will endeavour to deliver pure, unadulterated, undiluted justice in tandem with the provisions of the law.

He therefore warned sternly that the tribunal will not bend backwards to accommodate spurious delay tactics aimed at stifling smooth proceeding.

He therefore, appeal to the ministers in the temple of justice not to seek to stretch their indulgence with frivolous applications because we are not prepared to budge.

Belgore added that they will dispose of every appeal within 60 days.

He appealed to the press, that their reporting should be done with nothing but fair consideration, and that they will not seek to limit in any way their unfettered access to information.

The FCT chief judge, Justice Husseini Baba Yusuf on Jan. 27, 2022 swore in members of the Area Council tribunal.

The tribunal was of two groups made up of three members each, the Area Council election appeal, have it’s chairman as Justice Suleiman Belgore with Justice Yusuf Halilu and Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie as members.

Others are Muninat Folashade Oyekan as chairperson with Bala Ahmed Ndajiwo and Kimi Livingston Appah as members for FCT Area Council.

According to Baba Yusuf, the exercise was in line with section 135 and 136 of the electoral Act as amended.(NAN)
