FG, Belarus Sign MoU on Communication Satellite Backup

The Federal Government through the Nigerian Communication Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Limited and Belintersat, its Belarus counterpart

in Asia, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on strategic partnership for a mutual back up of communication satellite services.

The MoU was signed on behalf of NIGCOMSAT ltd by its Managing Director, Ms. Abimbola Alale, while the Chief Operating Officer of Belintersat under the watchful eyes of officials of the China Great Wall Industries Corporation, (CGWIC) builders of the two communications satellites.

The disclosure was made in a statement on Thursday by the Head of Public Relations, Mr. Adamu Idris, said the MoU is aimed at repositioning NIGCOMSAT ltd for commercial and economic viability.

Alale, assured that with the partnership, NIGCOMSAT Ltd is set to push its services further as well as reassured customers of reliability and sustainability.

She stressed that NIGCOMSAT ltd occupies a strategic position for the nation’s economic and security architecture of the country that must be given the highest priority in the scheme of things.

In his remark, the Executive Director, Marketing and Business Development, Mr. Samson Osagie expressed joy at the partnership believing that NIGCOMSAT customers will no longer have reasons to worry about the absence of a backup for NigComSat-1R.

Osagie enjoined corporate bodies and other stakeholders in the industry to have confidence in NIGCOMSAT ability to render seamless services to its clients.

He noted further that with the plans to acquire NigComSat-2 and 3, NIGCOMSAT Ltd has finally been positioned to commence full commercial operations and appealed to the federal government to effectively implement the Executive Order No. 2 dealing with local content with specific reference to satellite communications in Nigeria.

It would be recalled that NIGCOMSAT Ltd won the bid for payload management or what is known as Carrier Spectrum Management in the industry, of Belintersat-1 amongst international competitors which NIGCOMSAT engineers have also effectively managed in the past years.
