FG Constitutes Investigative Panel on the Escape of Boko Haram Suspect

The Federal Government has constituted an investigative panel to ascertain how Boko Haram suspect, Kabir Sokoto, escaped from the police in Abuja.

The Minister of Police Affairs, retired Navy Capt. Caleb Olubolade, made this known while fielding questions from State House Correspondents on Friday in Abuja.

He also stated that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) had since replied to the query issued to him over the incident.

“Like I did say the other day, I have given some directives to the police and the Inspector-General of Police has responded.

“Based on that, a committee has been set up above the police which takes into cognisance experts in various aspects to come together and conduct another investigation so that is being assembled and they have been set to work.

“I think this is how far we have gone.’’

The minister said that the panel would also look into the submission made by the inspector-general of police on the query.

He said the panel which was constituted by the Office of the National Security Adviser, comprised senior military officers, the Police and senior government officials.

“The committee has one week within which it will submit its findings,’’ he said

Kabir Sokoto, a suspected Boko Haram kingpin, was arrested at the Borno State Governor’s Lodge, Abuja, last Saturday, but escaped the next day when he was being led to his Abaji residence on the outskirt of Abuja for a search by a team of policemen.
