FG, KPMG Sign Contract for NIPOST Reform

In a bid to kick-start the activities and the process of reforming the Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST), for efficient service delivery,

government through the Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE) has signed a contract agreement between it and the Transaction Adviser for the postal sector reform, restructuring and modernization.

Addressing stakeholders at the venue of the contract-signing ceremony in Abuja, the Minister of Communications, Mr. Adebayo Shittu said, the event concludes the process of engagement of the transaction Adviser that will work with the steering committee and other stakeholders as well as kick-starts the activities and the process of transforming NIPOST, this was as contained in a statement signed by Mr. Henshaw Ogubike, Deputy Director, press unit of the ministry, made available to SHARPEDGENEWS Online.

Shittu, in the statement maintained that it is the desire of the administration to transform the postal sector into the most efficient and viable sectors, in the Nigerian economy in particular, and one of the best, in the world.

According to him, “the postal sector reforms, restructuring and modernization of NIPOST is a collaborative project of the Ministry of Communications, the Bureau of Public Enterprises and the NIPOST, which commenced with the inauguration of a steering committee and project delivery Team (PDT)” He Stated.

The minister further explained that the engagement of a transaction adviser to assist the relevant stakeholders in executing the assignment was approved by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who is the Chairman of the National Council on Privatization (NCP).

He therefore urged the transaction adviser to demonstrate competence, commitment and efficiency in executing the task within 3 months earlier than the 6 months deadline slated by the NCP, describing the project as a very important one.

He assures that the steering committee and all other stakeholders involved in the project are committed to working with KPMG to ensure the project is delivered as scheduled, emphasizing that time is of the essence.

In his address, Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE), Alex A. Okoh, reiterated that the contract signing was a significant milestone towards the implementation of the Postal Sector Reform.

According to him “the success of the Postal Sector Reform lies on the Transaction Adviser since the National Council on Privatization (NCP) has approved six-month timeline for the execution of the project”. Hence, prompt delivery of the project, commitment and zeal should be implored to ensure that the reform will bring the best of NIPOST to be the best integrated postal service providers in the world.
