FG Orders MTN to Suspend Planned Charges on Bank USSD Services

By Seun Adams

The Federal Government through the Ministry of Communications on Sunday ordered NCC to compel MTN to immediately suspend it’s planned service charges on USSD access to bank services.

The ministry, said its attention was drawn to the viral text message allegedly sent by MTN Nigeria, a mobile network operator and other mobile operators notifying subscribers of a Four Naira (N4) charge per 20 seconds on USSD access to banking services from the 21st of October 2019.

The Minister of Communications, Mr. Isa Pantami, in a statement through his Spokesperson, Mrs. Uwa Suleiman, said government is unaware of this development and has therefore directed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to ensure that the operator suspends such plans until the minister is fully and properly briefed.
