President Goodluck Jonathan has reiterated the commitment of the Federal Government toward tackling terrorism in the country.
“The Federal Government will not rest on its oars until this act of terrorism is wiped out from the country,” he said.
Jonathan gave the assurance when he paid a sympathy visit to the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, in his palace in Kano on Sunday.
The President, who was accompanied by the National Security Adviser and the Minister of Defence, also said that the Federal Government would do everything possible to strengthen the security of the entire country.
“I want to assure His Royal Highness that the Federal Government will strengthen security in Kano and the entire country.”
According to him, the Federal Government will collaborate with the Kano State Government to assist the families of the injured and those who lost their lives in the Friday bomb blasts.
He advised Nigerians to expose suspected characters by reporting them to security agencies for appropriate action.
He said: “as long as we continue to allow these people to stay with us, then they will continue to cause havoc in our midst.’’
On the three abandoned irrigation projects in the state, Jonathan said that the Federal Government would complete the projects with a view to boosting food production in the state.
Earlier, the Emir of Kano told Jonathan that the emirate would support any measure the Federal Government would take to bring to an end such ugly incidents.
He said: “on our part, we shall continue to organise special prayers for God’s intervention as well as to bring to an end such ugly happenings in the country.’’
Bayero then called on the Federal Government to deploy additional security agents to the state, especially the police in view of the fact that the existing 8,000 policemen in the state were grossly inadequate.
Jonathan was in Kano to commiserate with the government and people of the state over the Jan. 20 Boko Haram sect attacks in the state.
He had earlier visited the Armed Forces Military Hospital and the AIG office along the BUK Road before returning to Abuja.
