The Minister of Aviation, Mrs Stella Oduah-Ogiemwonyi, has reiterated the commitment of the Federal Government to commercialise all agencies in the aviation industry as part of its transformation agenda.
Oduah-Ogiemwonyi said this in a statement signed by Mr Supo Atobatele, the General Manager, Public Affairs, Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), and made available newsmen in Lagos on Sunday.
She said that the commercialisation of agencies in the aviation industry would be given top priority under the current efforts toward transforming all sectors of the nation’s economy.
The minister called on stakeholders in the industry to bring suggestion on the best way to run government organisations with the option of commercialisation.
Oduah-Ogiemwonyi had said at the closing ceremony of NAMA’s Corporate Realignment Retreat in Abuja that efficiency and effectiveness were the key performance indicator for the growth of an organisation.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs Anne Ene-Ita, wondered how the agency would run efficiently “if we remain the way we are.
“Are we self-sustaining? Can we measure up to the standards of other Air Navigation Service Providers and business models worldwide,’’ she queried.
She charged NAMA not to relent in its efforts to chat the way forward for the agency and other parastatals in the aviation industry, explaining that experts in the sector had raised the issue of safety as an impediment to the commercialisation.
She said that the President Goodluck Jonathan’s transformation agenda “required sacrifice on everyone’s part.’’
