THE Marina, Lagos Island, headquarters of Wema Bank on Tuesday was the scene of a fire accident caused considerable panic among the staff of the bank and workers with neigboring businesses.
The fire reportedly began near one of the generating sets in the building around 5.30 p.m, just as workers were leaving their offices at the close of the day’s work.
Although there was no loss of life, the incident led to panic as the workers ran for safety.
Prompt responses from Nigerian Fire Service, the Nigeria Police and workers of neighboring banks helped stem the impact of the fire which was eventually doused.
A statement from the bank signed by the Head, Brand and Marketing Communications, Adefemi Adeniran confirmed the incident, stating that there was no loss to the incident.
“We wish to commend the prompt response and effort of the Lagos State and Nigerian Fire Service, the Nigeria Police and our colleagues in the neighbouring banks who came out to lend their support in ensuring that the fire was brought under total control in good time,” he said..
He noted that the fire incident would not in any way affect the operations of the bank.
“We also wish to assure the public that the bank has put in place necessary measures to mitigate the impact of such occurrences and that the fire would in no way adversely affect the operations of the bank.”
