One of Nigeria’s oldest women, Madam Janet Obadofin, has passed on at age 102.
She was at the weekend honoured with a high-level funeral party thrown by her Chicago, US-based granddaughter, Mrs Opeyemi Olajumoke Jackson, in concert with other family members.
The funeral ceremony held at Ascension Hall of the Anglican Communion, Opebi, Lagos.
Jackson, a business woman and socialite, described her grandmum who was married to her family patriarch, Obadofin, of Akunnu-Akoko in Ondo State as nice, caring, and God-fearing.
“Mama was so nice, caring and God-fearing. She was always there for not only we members of her family but also for all those who needed one form of assistance or the other.
“I can proudly say that these sterling qualities accounted for her long life in an era when life expectancy is drawing down,” Mrs Jackson enthused.
The socialite commended the attributes of the late Madam Obadofin to other women, noting that good character goes a long way in attracting the mercies of God and breeding an adorable society.
Speaking in the same vein, a daughter of the deceased centenarian, who is a queen in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, Olori Olayinka Ajayi, recalled that her mum taught the children and others to be contented, as avarice and greed would always lead to perdition.
“No doubt, we will miss our Mama because she was always there for us, to counsel and monitor our welfare. But we are consoled that she ran a good race in life and passed on in a blaze of glory,” the queen commended.
Other grandchildren who spoke in glowing terms of the late Madam Janet Obadofin include Mr. Adeniyi Obadofin of the Lagos State civil service, and Mr. Demola Obadofin, an accountant and a political chieftain from Ondo State.
