Crisis raged till the evening of Monday in Sagamu, Ogun State, following the killing of a footballer, Tiamiyu Kazeem by a policeman of the Special Anti-Roobery Squad (SARS).
No fewer than three persons, who included a policeman, were feared dead, but the police claimed there was no casualty.
Speaking with sharpedgenews.com, the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, claimed that there was no casualty and that the situation had been put under control.
Kazeem, widely known as Kaka, was killed last Saturday allegedly by a police operative along the Lagos-Sagamu expressway.
The deceased footballer was a player with the Remo Stars Football Club in Sagamu.
Reacting to the incident, Oyeyemi said, “I can confirm to you that there was no casualty; it is true that there was a protest today but it had been put under control, through persuation and due consultation.
“The protesters had threatened to burn down the Sagamu police station but everything is now under control.”
During the protest, hundreds of youths poured into the street of Sagamu, pouring invectives on the police as the condemned persistent acts of police brutality and arrests for pecuniary games by the police in the area.
Meanwhile, a former governor of the state, Chief Gbenga Daniel, on Monday visited the palace of the paramount ruler of Remoland, the Akarigbo, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, where he held consultations with him, with a view to helping the put down the unrest.
Also at the Oba’s palace were a member of the House of Representatives, Remo Federal Constituency, Mrs. Adewunmi Onanuga, and the sate’s Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Funmi Fuwape, who made efforts to assuage frayed nerves.
