Former Bank Chief Akingbola Loses Yet Another Plea in Court

FORMER managing director of Intercontinental Bank Plc (now named Access Bank) was on Wednesday denied his application to use some documents, containing parts of the proceedings of a Federal High Court suit against him, for the cross examination of a prosecution witness.

The court, a Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja, dismissed the application which Akingbola had made through his counsel, Mr. Deji Sasegbon (SAN) in which he also asked that the documents be admitted as exhibits.

In his ruling, Justice Habeeb Abiru rejected the documents and refused to admit them as exhibits while also disallowing attempts by the defense to use a part of the documents to cross-examine the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) witness, Mr. Abdulraheem Jimoh.

The court held that the defense had not shown the relevance of the documents to the suit at hand in the court.
