Frank Okon’s Ambition in Akwa Ibom: Dream of a Worm

If we might think about putting the natural sciences or politics in perspective as Aristotle did in his time and observe how objects studied by theoretical sciences are differentiated from one another, we are bound to find the distinctions in exactly

the same way as Aristotle did. Accordingly, two objects may be accessible to the senses and may be both “inseparable’’ from the matter but if one object is perishable and the other is eternal, they belong to different theoretical sciences: the plato (that is, good) – eternal and the perishable-low quality. This kind of distinction making and putting of object into being for effective study require us extracting qualities, like the eternality from objects, to arrive at the forceful imperatives and value abstraction. In a bin of political study of voters’ choice of candidates, if the judgments of voters are done conscientiously, valuing the integrity of each candidate in a balance; mistake of choices will be avoided. It is an incontestable fact that the application of the above philo-scientific principle by the people of Akwa Ibom State accounted for the victory of Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio at the last Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries and the eventual general election in the State. Obviously, the people were able to assess Chief Akpabio’s integrity in keeping his promise to uncommonly reform and transform the State.

The Aristotle science was used basically in differentiating the good-distinct quality from the perishable – non qualitative objects that has similarity in use and resemblance. Guided by the same principle, the Akwa Ibom people practically disassociated themselves from wealth plunderers and refused giving a single vote to the likes of Frank Okon during the nomination of the People Democratic Party and thus guided, they voted enmass for a superior brand, an eternal quality.

In politics, it was first used in 1697, after the revolutions that crack down monarchy around the globe, to study the election speeches of Greek candidates seeking the votes of the citizens for election into public offices. The study enabled the people to differentiate the distinctive candidates with eternal vision that could turn around the fortunes of Greece. This was what gave a pass mark to Lord Aneadia Luastra and brought down Pius Harlors though ordinarily admired by the people.  The former, stood out by integrity, won at the election.

In 2007, there were 56 aspirants who aspired to be the flag bearer of Peoples Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State but the outstanding qualities of Chief  Godswill Obot Akpabio fetched him the ticket. Again, in the 2011 nomination, he swept all the votes on the first day of the nomination leaving only 2 votes for Hon Imo Udo and nothing for Frank Okon. However, the Party ordered for fresh nomination in consideration of a petition filed by Eng. Frank Okon, the man who stole Akwa Ibom money meant for the State Science Park project, leaving that project site desolate but for wild animals inhabiting it today. At that too, the Governor emerged victorious with all the votes returning him as the PDP flag bearer.

It must be said, that only 2 other aspirants dared seeking nomination alongside Governor Akpabio during the 2011 primaries of the PDP as against the 56 in 2007, it was a clear testimony of satisfaction showcased by Akwa Ibom people towards the Governor Akpabio-led administration. It was symbolic and amazing! Even the Frank Okon who filed the petition refused to turn up for the nomination on the second day. Rather he thought he should and did go to Court shopping for a restraining injunction to stop Chief (Dr.) Godswill Akpabio from parading himself as the candidate of PDP claiming that Chief Akpabio was not duly cleared by the Party. Shortly, afterwards, the Party gave its flag to the Governor in Port Harcourt. Interestingly, both the Frank Okon and Imo Udo were present at the event with pockets of supporters they hired from remote villages and neighbouring Cross Rivers State, people who were never involved in gubernatorial election nomination. It was totally disgraceful and shameful of them and those who are sponsoring their mischief.

Tears were seen visibly dropping from the eyes of Imoh Udo and Frank Okon who rushed out of the stadium managing to escape the stampede at the venue on that fateful day.

Men who are sponsoring them are those who had looted our treasury, and they know no- good to do with such wealth, instead of plying back into ventures that could turn around the fortune of our state, they used it always to foment evil, which could destabilize the state’s growth. They are like rats that gather meals in wickedness and scatter around the house while eating, resulting in a mess, but the rat who gathers with dignity and integrity eats it with all amount of decency and preserves the sanctity of its home.

It will be recalled that Mr. Frank Okon came back to Nigeria just one month to the PDP’s nomination and believe that he would win the Party’s primaries. He ran to Dubai to avoid an arrest by EFCC and ICPC, after the expiration of Obong (Arc) Victor Attah’s administration, where he served as the Head of Technical Matters. After the Ad hoc Committee of the House of Assembly conducted thorough investigation into what transpired with the science park project funds, their finding had it that Eng. Frank okon connived with some foreigners and siphoned the state wealth to tone of 5.3 million dollars, about 17 billion naira. He came back declaring his intention to contest the gubernatorial election in the State without a campaign in any of the Local Government and expected winning nomination against a man, who besides having campaigned widely and largely throughout the State, is also armed with a record of uncommon reformation and transformation in the State, Chief (Dr.) Godswill Obot Akpabio, the Ono Mkpo Inam I, the unstoppable force, an emerging tiger in Africa, and a man predestined by God to take the State out of slums of underdevelopment.

After the emergence of Chief (Dr.) Godswill Obot Akpabio as the PDP flag bearer for the Governorship election in the State, Frank Okon again went to Court for an injunction to restrain INEC from recognizing him as same. This mischievous bid was foiled by the court itself and Governor Akpabio was listed by INEC among candidates cleared for the governorship election in the country. Just like a corrupt police officer, who will see black and called it white or could enter your house on search and turn to be the one to plant the exhibit he intends using to prosecute you, Frank Okon then changed his prayers in the suit against Akpabio by filing claims that Akpabio was not duly cleared by PDP. When this also failed, he filed that Akpabio’s form was signed by Chief Nwodo days after he has resigned from office as the National Chairman of PDP. When this too could not survive the legal scourges of Chief Akpabio’s learned council of solicitors, he brought further petitions that Nwodo’s signature on the form was forged by Governor Akpabio. While these numerous applications were still pending before the State High Court, Frank rushed to the Court of Appeal (CA) on the same matters but when it became obvious, that they would be flung out ground of abuse of court process, he afterwards ran to judges of the CA, knelt begging the judges to give him a safe landing by withdrawing the case to save him the embarrassment. This was reluctantly granted by the court.

Chief  Nwodo who is in Germany on his private mission says he is ready to be in the Court, once the Court summons him to do so. This means in first place that the Former Chairman has never been inform. It also shows the stupidity on the side of Frank Okon who went around town announcing to people that he is to be sworn in on the same evening Chief Nwodo was billed to appear to testify on the matter in court. The Former National Party Chairman is ready to tell the Court that he signed the form and as at that date he was still the legitimate chairman as the Court order to vacate office was yet to be served on him.

It is difficult to imagine why anybody would think that Akwa Ibom people will vote for an allege criminal in the character of Frank Okon. At least, not after the House of Assembly has made a public report on the park saga. I read a newspaper headline on one of local dailies, “I will be sworn in as Akwa Ibom State Governor” by Frank Okon. Incredible, haba Frank Okon! This is clearly like a dream, that of a worm swallowing a lion!

Let those who do not know what to do with our stolen funds continue to flung it into acts that are capable of breaking down our economy, rather than opening industries to employ the masses.

But the Lord will continue to paint their faces with shame, as Chief Akpabio will continue to reign, rule and be king over them, for his uncommon reformation and transformation of Akwa Ibom State stand him out.

This writer wishes to pray the Governor Akpabio yield to the cries of teeming masses of the State to, as a matter of urgent public importance,  forward the House of Assembly report on the science park project to EFCC, to let the bandits face the long arm of the law. Then his tongue will be cleft to his jaw as a piece of metal clamped to a milling machine.white bom bom is an artiste, social critics, and president foundation against triablism and social vices in Nigeria,FATSVIN. contact email whitebombom@yahoo.com,phone 08033375068
