Free Community Foundation, non-governmental organization (NGO), said it has put machinery in place to train over 3000 youths
nationwide to address youth restiveness, encourage self-reliance and to complement the efforts of the Federal Government in reducing crimes in the country.
Mr Mark Agu, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), of the foundation, disclosed this on Thursday, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) ahead of the training programme scheduled to flag-off next week Monday, November 16, starting from Pegi in Kuje Area Council, and subsequently in the six Area Councils of FCT.
According to him, the capacity development exercise with the theme, “COVID-19 Free Palliative Training Programme” is aimed at empowering and supporting youths through Wealth creation and to encourage self-employment for national development.
Agu said the foundation was training the youths on Solar installation, satellite, fashion design, catering and decoration, bead making, cable installation, website and graphic design, video editing, CCTV installation and paint making.
“From the things we have seen in the country, the youths are protesting because they need their rights and have not been carried along for too long.
“So, what we have decided to do as an organisation is to bridge the gap between the youths and the government; and also every well-meaning citizen of Nigeria.
“We want to train and empower the youths for life skills so that they can be useful in the society, adequately engaged and self-employed for the economic development of the country,” he said.
However, he disclosed that the aim and objective of the organisation was to empower and support entrepreneurial development, to ensure self-employment and wealth creation for youths in the country.
He also called on the youths to avoid any form of violence, protest and unrest in the country but rather dialogue with the government for the development of the country.
“Free Community is a world of artisans saddled with the responsibility of empowering and supporting youths through free skills acquisition programmes.
“We have drawn participants from various parts of the country, to train the youths for one week on different skills acquisition.
“There is a need to engage ourselves in various skills and stop looking for white-collar jobs that are no longer available,” he said. (NAN)
