Commission (EFCC) says it released Governor Sule Lamido’s son, Aminu Sule Lamido, on bail pending his arraignment at court.
Aminu was arrested at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport on Tuesday night for under-declaring N6.3 million equivalents in US dollars in his possession, while on his way to Cairo in Egypt.
The eldest son of the governor, allegedly declared only $10, 000 to Customs officials at the airport, but was intercepted by EFCC task force, who found additional $40, 000 on him.
Speaking to Daily Trust on phone yesterday, EFCC spokesperson Wilson Uwujaren said Aminu had been admitted to bail.
Uwujaren said he was released in the morning yesterday. He said the suspect had been charged to court, adding, however, that no date was fixed for his arraignment. The official said he was not in a position to state the conditions of the bail.
“I am not in a position to state the conditions here, but he has been admitted to bail. They (the court) have not given us date yet,” he said.
Meanwhile, Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State, father of the suspect, has debunked the allegation by Sahara Reporters that Aminu Sule Lamido who was arrested by EFCC on Tuesday for possessing $50,000 was laundering money on his behalf.
His Director of Press, Umar Kyari Jitau, said in a statement that Aminu Lamido was actually going to Egypt for the medical treatment of his daughter who had a spinal cord problem.
