A socio-political organisation, Social Rehabilitation Gruppe (SRG), has described as unconstitutional and unacceptable, the refusal of the Ondo State House of Assembly to invoke the doctrine of necessity by transmitting power to the deputy governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Speaking on a live programme in Television Continental ((TVC), the group’s National Coordinator and Convener, Dr. Marindoti Oludare, said the refusal of the lawmakers to pronounce Aiyedatiwa as Acting Governor in the continued absence of his boss, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) defied logic.
“The Constitution is clear, and I don’t see why Aiyedatiwa has not been pronounced Acting Governor since the Govenor is yet to resume office after many months of attending to his health.
“Akeredolu could not have been declared Governor when he won the election if there was no deputy governor. The two of them were validly elected and the Constitution is clear on who should be in charge if the governor is absent.
“I appeal to our mothers and fathers in government in Ondo State to do the right thing by obeying the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he urged.
Oludare said since Ondo State had been without a governor or someone to act in his stead, development had been retarded.
He remarked that for three months, the state had not been properly represented at the federal executive council, and that the state executive council meetings had also been stalled.
Besides, he noted that there is no one the masses of Ondo State could look up to, for leadership.
Oludare applauded the intervention of President Bola Tinubu, noting that the onus was on the Ondo lawmakers to do the needful.
