FOUR government officials on a tour of schools in Borno State were intercepted and murdered by unidentified gunmen, suspected to be members of the violent group, Boko Haram, on Tuesday evening.
The news of their murder, however is only emerging due to the isolation of the region due to the violent activities of the killers who identify themselves as being on a mission for Islam.
The latest murder of innocent officials comes amid growing calls by leaders in the northern region for amnesty to be granted militants responsible for the ceaseless killings, a call which the President and Commander-in-Chief Goodluck Jonathan is giving serious consideration with the establishment of a committee, last week, to see the possibility of exercising the prerogative of mercy for persons who continue to murder Nigerians by the dozens, week after week.
Musa Inuwa Kubo confirmed the incident in his capacity as the Borno State education commissioner, saying the that officials were waylaid in their vehicle at Logomani Village, almost 90 miles out of the capital city of Maiduguri.
The four officials were summarily executed by their assailants.
According to sources, the deceased were members of a committee on providing free feeding for schools in Borno State, chaired by Tijani Mafe, who was killed alongside others in the vehicle.
Also identified as one of the killed members of the entourage was Modu Kura Gubio, an accountant.
The remaining members of the group have yet to be identified.
