Gunmen Raid Hotel in Ajah Killing Hotelier and 3 Others

A HOTEL at Ajah, in Lagos State was attacked by suspected robbers yesterday killing the owner, Mr. Olanrewaju

Subair alongside three others who are said to be members of staff.

 

The police authorities said one of the gunmen was killed in the operation which lasted for about an hour.

The incident which occurred at the popular “O” Hotel, on Berger road promptly created confusion in the neighbourhood.

According to reports, the rampaging robbers also set ablaze vehicles parked inside the premises of the hotel by lodgers. It was further gathered that some people sustained injuries during the attack. The robbers numbering about eight armed with sophisticated weapons, stormed the hotel on revenge mission.

It was gathered that few weeks ago, men of the State Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) on a tip off that some robbers were lodging in the hotel, raided the place and arrested two members of the gang including its leader.

The arrest, it was gathered did not go down well with the other members of the gang who suspected the owner of the hotel and his staffers as the whistle blowers.

It was gathered that the hoodlums practically held the hotel hostage during the raid. After a gun battle with the police, one of the robbers was found dead while some of them escaped with bullets wound. An AK47 rifle was recovered from the robber.”

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Ngozi Braide said: “When our men got a distress call that robbers who pretended to be lodgers in the hotel were wreaking havoc,  they raced to the scene and during a fierce gun duel, one of the robbers was shot dead, others escaped . We also recovered one AK47 rifle at the scene”.

Braide said the state Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko, has ordered men of the state SARS to fish out the hoodlums, vowing that they will be arrested.

She urged the hospitals and medical practitioners in the state to report to the police any person with bullet wound, who comes seeking their assistance.
