Hollywood’s Morgan Freeman Donates $1 Million to Pro-Obama Group

PRESIDENT Barack Obama’s run for a 2nd term in office recently received a major boost, courtesy of American actor

Morgan Freeman who donated $1 million to the coffers of the president’s campaign, according to the records of the Federal Election Commission whose details of the donation will be made available on Friday.

The actor’s donation follows a similar one made by another Hollywood star Bill Maher, a comedian and host of HBO television show, Real Time with Bill Maher.

In ADSDS this year, Mr. Maher sent out information that he had a major announcement coming up in a comedy gig he was hosting near San Francisco. He later surprised his audience by announcing that he was donating a million dollars to a super progressive action committee group that supports the campaign of President Obama.

Mr. Freeman said his donation was in appreciation of the “remarkable job” that Mr. Obama has done in spite of the enormous challenges he faces as president.

“Pres. Obama has done a remarkable job in historically difficult circumstances,” Freeman wrote in a statement made available to the media.

“He ended combat operations in Iraq, put in place sensible reforms of Wall Street, saved the auto industry and protected the health care of every American. He has led our nation to be more tolerant and placed impressive, accomplished women on the Supreme Court,” the actor said in his statement.

Showing a strong commitment to Obama’s campaign, the actor said he was “proud to lend my voice – and support – to those who defend him,” citing Priorities USA for mention and committing his entire donation to the group.

An Oscar-winning actor, Morgan Freeman currently stars in upcoming Batman movie, “The Dark Knight Rises,” projected to be another dollar-grossing Hollywood hit after it hits the theatres on Friday. Freeman won his Oscar for his role in the hit flick “Million Dollar Baby” in 2005.

A few other Hollywood stars have put their money where their mouth is in support of President Obama, who faces a herculean task in raising enough funds to defeat Republican challenger Mitt Romney in November this year. Hollywood giants Stephen Speilberg has supported Obama-friendly Priorities USA as did Dreamworks chief Jeffrey Katzenberg, who donated $2 million to the group.

But last month, the Romney campaign outraised the Obama campaign for the first time by over a $30 million, raising the stakes for the latter as Election Day draws near. The election is billed to be the most expensive in US history, as observers predict that previous record of ??? set by the Obama campaign will be easily broken.
