HOS Urges Workers to Improve in Their Service Delivery

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita has called on the Federal Civil Servants in the country to improve

their performance and service delivery to the Nigerian citizens in line with the desire of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. 

Mrs. Oyo-Ita made the urge in her office in Abuja during the send –off ceremony of the Permanent Secretary, Common Services Office in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mr. Yemi Adelakun who retired from service after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60 years.

While eulogizing the virtues of Mr. Adelakun, the Head of Service urged workers to emulate his track record of performance in terms of dedication to duty and unusual skills he possess. She said that Mr. Adelakun was honoured by her, his colleagues the serving and retired Federal Permanent Secretaries, other senior staff in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and the senior Civil Servants service wide, especially for the successes recorded under his watch as chairman of the Federal Integrated Staff Housing (FISH) programme for Federal Civil Servants and urged workers to emulate his hard work.

Mr. S.K.Y. Adelakun, the retired Federal Permanent Secretary urged workers to be dedicated to their duties so as to reap the benefits of hard work. He said that Civil Servants should always endeavour to put in their best under any circumstance.

“Give your job the best you can, be honest and pray for God’s guidance while carrying out your responsibility. Civil Service is a reservoir of knowledge and that knowledge should be used for the growth of the nation,” he said.

He attributed the success of his career to the favour and mercy of God, and thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for giving him the opportunity to serve as a Federal Permanent Secretary. Adelakun, who was also popularly called Baba Federal Integrated Staff Housing (FISH) programme, thanked the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winfred Oyo-Ita for creating a good working environment for him, describing her as a boss that is not bossy. 

He also thanked his colleagues for their collaboration and cooperation while in office. Adelakun who is a chartered accountant joined the Federal Civil Service in 1982 as Higher Executive Officer before he was appointed Federal Permanent Secretary in November 2013. Born in Lagos on 15th May 1957, Mr. Adelakun started his career as a Federal Civil Servant in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in January 1983 as an Accounts Officer and served as Finance Attaché to Nigeria High Commission in Port of Spain, Pretoria, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
