The Araba of Ibadanland, Chief Ifalere Odegbemi Odegbola II, has said that he established Isese Light Kiddies Nursery and Primary School to enhance educational development in Oyo State.
While addressing journalists in Ibadan, Araba Odegbola, who is also the Olu-Isese of Ibadanland, explained that the school’s purpose is to support educational growth and preserve traditional beliefs.
“The establishment of the first Isese school in Ibadan marks a significant cultural revival. We aim to contribute to the educational development of the state, while promoting Yoruba traditional beliefs, which have faced challenges from other religions.”
The Araba of Ibadanland also emphasized the importance of Western education and the need to reconnect with indigenous roots, asserting that education in traditional religion is vital for cultural identity.
He assured that the school would not discriminate against other religions, stating that all faiths would be equally recognized and respected.”
“Like any standard school, we will provide a comprehensive curriculum for our children. Those from Isese backgrounds will learn Yoruba mythology and ethical teachings to become better leaders.”
“The understanding of these elements is crucial for the younger generation to appreciate their heritage.”
“I am passionate about education and strive for personal development daily. This initiative aims to counteract the declining knowledge of traditional practices among our children.”
He urged parents in Omi-Adio and surrounding areas to take advantage of the affordable school fees and also appealed to the Ido Local Government Chairman to urgently repair the Aba Araba to Alakaso road, which is currently in poor condition.
The Araba also highlighted the need for dialogue among different religious bodies, stating, “By fostering mutual respect and understanding, the school aims to create harmonious coexistence between traditionalists, Christians, and Muslims in Ibadan.”
