DESPISED at home and increasingly facing pariah treatment abroad for its many gaffes, the confused
leadership of President Goodluck Jonathan has unfold its plot of calumny against the chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi.
The almighty disinformation and misinformation machinery of the Jonathan Administration roared into life on Monday, when desperate falsehood rolled out claiming that Governor Amaechi, alongside other Peoples Democratic Party governors, opted to shun the meeting of renegade Godswill Akpabio-led PDP Governor’s Forum.
It turned out that the internationalcommunity that is currently beating a retreat in its extension of gracious relationship with Jonathan has now decided to roll out the red carpets for alternative players, who stand tall in integrity and honor.
Amaechi did not shun the meeting in Abuja, on the contrary he was a guest speaker at this year’s Commonwealth of Nations celebrations in London, United Kingdom.
Governor Amaechi arrived Abuja Nigeria on Tuesday and decided to put the record straight, saying that he chose not to put the nation down by deciding to attend the celebrations at Westminster Abbey because he accepted the invitational to that regard a long time ago.
The commissioner for information and communication in Rivers State said that it is mischievous for anyone to get facts wrong, as Mr. Amaechi was speaking in London as one of three eminent speakers at the event.
Mrs. Semenitari said that since 1973, Commonwealth Day has been marked on the second Monday in March by a unique multi faith observance where globally recognized persons who are embodiments of the year’s theme spirit are invited to deliver evidence based testimonials.
“This year, Governor Amaechi was invited several months ago to speak alongside Virgin Atlantic’s Richard Branson and Rickel Patel, Executive Director of Avaaz, the largest online activist community,” she stated.
“One wonders why mischief makers will insinuate that Governor Amaechi shunned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum when in actual fact he was flying the Nigerian flag at this historic global event, Mrs. Semenitari said.
The Commissioner described the Governor as a loyal party man who would always participate in activities of the PDP but for the clash in date.
Mrs. Semenitari lauded Governor Amaechi’s towering international profile which earned him a shirt at the commonwealth forum describing it as recognition of his landmark achievements anchored on transparency and accountability.
“The time has come for detractors to acknowledge the fact that mudslinging cannot overshadow the global recognition given to a people-oriented governor.
“Governor Amaechi remains committed to the building of our nation Nigeria and the democratic ideals of his party, the PDP and no amount of blackmail can change this incontrovertible fact, “Mrs. Semenitari said.
