Ifá Disciplinary And Reformation Summit Set For Thursday In Ibadan

The International Forum of Araba and Oluwo will host the Ifá Disciplinary and Reformation Summit on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026, in Ibadan to address misconduct and restore integrity to the ancient Yoruba divination practice.

A statement by His Eminence, Araba Agbaye Oluisese Awodotun Owolabi Aworeni Makoranwale II, said the event aims to raise awareness, enforce discipline, and drive reforms among Ifá practitioners amid rising concerns over actions that tarnish the tradition’s reputation.

“Owing to the growing concern that Ifá practitioners are engaging in actions capable of tarnishing the image of the generality of Ifá practitioners, we decided to act by having this Ifá Disciplinary and Reformation Summit in Ibadan,” Owolabi said in a statement.

He added: “Issues like commercial exploitation, false prophecies, and others will be addressed at the summit.”

The summit is set for 10 a.m. at the House of Chiefs Secretariat in Ibadan and will draw Arabas (chief priests) and Oluwos (spiritual leaders) from across Nigeria and beyond.

Other stakeholders, including herbalists, cultural custodians, and academics, will also be in attendance to discuss a code of ethics for practitioners, anti-fraud measures, and strategies to preserve Ifá amid modernization.
