
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the promotion of 2,339 staff members under its 2025 Senior Staff Promotion Exercise.
The decision was reached at the Commission’s meeting held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, as part of measures to bolster administrative efficiency and reinforce leadership capacity ahead of forthcoming electoral engagements.
The commission said the exercise underscores its commitment to career development, institutional continuity and organizational stability.
At the Directorate level (Grade Levels 16–17), 45 Deputy Directors were elevated to the rank of Directors. Of this number, 18 officers will remain in active service, while 27 are scheduled for retirement shortly after their promotion in line with existing public service regulations.
Similarly, at Grade Levels 15–16, a total of 91 Assistant Directors were promoted to Deputy Directors. Eighty-two Chief Officers on Grade Levels 14–15 were also advanced to the rank of Assistant Directors.
The exercise further covered 2,121 intermediate officers on Grade Levels 07–13 across various departments of the Commission, reflecting a broad-based progression across multiple cadres.
INEC stated that the promotion process was conducted in strict adherence to established guidelines and extant public service rules, ensuring transparency, merit and fairness in the selection of beneficiaries.
The Commission emphasized that the exercise demonstrates its resolve to reward dedication, competence and years of service, while sustaining leadership depth and institutional memory within its structures.
The Commission said the strengthened workforce will play a vital role in delivering credible, transparent and efficient electoral processes nationwide.
INEC congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to redouble their commitment to professionalism, integrity and impartial service in the discharge of their responsibilities.
