Infant, 3 Others Die After Heavy-Duty Vehicle Crashes in Ogun

TRAGEDY struck in the close-knit community of Abuke Olokuta in Ilaro of Yewa North Local Government Area in Ogun State on Saturday, where an articulated vehicle rammed and killed a baby and 3 other persons.

 

No fewer than four  persons were crushed to death by an articulated vehicle, popularly known as trailer belonging to a manufacturing giant on Saturday at Abule Olokuta in Ilaro, Yewa North local Government Area of Ogun state while three were critical injured.

The victims were in a white Mazda 323 salon car with Ogun State number tag AJ 07 LAR, and they were instantly killed on impact from the cement-bearing tractor-trailer, registered in Jigawa with number XB 14 X. Four others were seriously wounded in the accident.

The driver of the trailer absconded the scene of the accident after which angry youths to attempted to set the vehicle alight before they were restrained by security operatives at the scene.

Both Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC and Traffic Compliance Agency Corps, TRACE, confirmed the incident were aware of the accident.

According to the Ilaro unit commander of FRSC, Bakare Fatai, the Mazda car had seven occupants instead of five during the incident.

He said the accident occurred as a result of recklessness of the trailer’s driver and carelessness of the Mazda driver.

The bodies of the victims have been deposited at Ilaro mortuary while those that were critically injured have been hospitalized at the emergency ward of Ilaro General Hospital.

According to Bakare, the incident occured around 1;30 pm shortly after the Mazda overtook the trailer which was already  on high speed in Abule Olokuta, near Ilaro and lost control.

Corroborating the FRSC, one of the officers of Traffic Compliance Agency Corps ,TRACE, in Ewekoro-Papalanto  unit, Abiodun Masaku told Vanguard on phone that, he saw the dead  bodies.
