Jimeta Lutheran Cathedral Gutted by Fire

A mysterious fire on Tuesday gutted the Cathedral of Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN) at Jimeta, Yola.

The fire, which started at about 2 p.m., lasted for about two hours before it was put off by men of fire fighters from the State Fire Service and Yola International Airport unit.

Commenting on the incident, the Secretary of the Diocese, Rev. Rikaya Nehemia, said in Yola that there was no actual cause of the fire.

“I was called at about 2 p.m that the cathedral was on fire, I cannot say exactly what is the cause of the fire outbreak for now, until we investigate it,” Rikaya said.

Rikaya said that no causality was recorded and that most of the church property had been removed.

Also, the Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency, Mr Shadrack Daniel, condoled the church members, pointing out that the agency would assist the church.

Shadrack said government would not compensate the church for the damage but it would ensure possible assistance.

The District Head of Jimeta, Alhaji Muhammad Baba-Paris sympathised with the church and called on its members to see the incident as an act of God.

Muhammad advised the church on the proper use of electrical appliances to guard against future occurrence.
