THOSE behind last Saturday’s attack on the convoy of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, will be located, apprehended and made to face the law.
This was according to a statement issued by President Goodluck Jonathan’s special adviser on media, Dr. Reuben Abati on Monday.
The statement stated that the attack on the Emir underscores the need for all Nigerians to be vigilant on the security challenges posed by terrorism in the country.
It described the attack on the Emir’s convoy, which resulted in the death of four people with others sustaining various degrees of injuries, as “unfortunate and also a regrettable incident.”
Condemning the attack in the strongest terms, the statement noted that the occurrence “once again underlines the senselessness of terrorism in all its ramifications.”
“President Goodluck Jonathan also commiserates with the families of those who lost their lives in the incident,” it read, assuring Nigerians that “the security agencies will do everything possible to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous act are identified and brought to justice.”
The Emir and two of his sons who sustained injuries as a result of the attack by gunmen have since been flown to an undisclosed hospital in the United Kingdom.
President Jonathan assurances come amid persistent concerns that his government does not have full control of the security situation occasioned by extremist elements operating in the northern part of the country.
For every assurances issuing forth from the president’s offices, the violent extremists only have to answer with yet another deadly attack, which literally rubbishes whatever assurances given by the president on protecting Nigerians.
