The Katsina State Rehabilitation and Emergency Relief Agency (RERA) has distributed relief materials worth over N137 million to victims of various disasters in the state as assistance in 2011.
The relief materials included cash, bags of assorted food grains, palm and vegetable oils, blankets, textile materials, matrasses and rubber mats.
The Executive Director of the agency, Alhaji Hassan Rawayau, disclosed this in an interview in Katsina Saturday.
He said the victims of 2011 flood disaster in Katsina, Baure, Malumfashi, Kankara, Kankia, Musawa, Dutsi and Bakori Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state were assisted with cash and relief materials totaling N52 million.
Rawayau said the agency had also distributed N55 million to victims of fire disasters which affected markets in Jibia, Katsina, Funtua and Bakori LGAs during the year under review.
He said: “a total of N20 million was also spent in assisting individuals whose houses were consumed by fire incidents across the state.
“While victims of other disasters were assisted with materials worth N10 million during the period.”
Rawayau also revealed that, in addition, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) had assisted the flood and fire victims with relief materials worth N3O million during the year under review.
He commended the state government for providing the needed support to the victims of disasters and thanked NEMA for its assistance to the victims.
