If the news coming from Kogi United’s camp is anything to go by, the feeder team of the club will participate at the 2017 Dana Youth Cup
taking place in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Chairman of the club, Mallam Abdul Sule who disclosed on Monday this via a telephone conversation from Denmark noted that the arrangements was in the final phase for the upcoming footballers- who were put together last year- to represent Kogi State and Nigeria at the annual soccer fiesta which has helped in grooming young players to stardom.
Sule said he was also in the Scandinavia country to strike out the deal with Akademisk Boldklub, AB Gladsaxe and a representative of clubs in Germany in partnering with the Confluence State club to expose players to foreign football and develop the game in the state.
“We are concluding plans for the feeder team of Kogi United to participate next year at the Dana cup where the young players will benefit and probably sign a club, thereby paving ways for others to join the Feeders team, we will be proposing that to the government and expect positive approval,” begins the former Stationery Stores and BCC striker.
“We have also concluded arrangements with foreign clubs in collaboration with Kogi United, one of the top clubs in Denmark, AB (Akademisk Boldklub Galssaxe) will be coming to Lokoja by February 8th in 2017 with the aim of watching the team (Kogi United) and select best players that will join AB, we will also have top representatives of clubs from Germany around with the same aim and grassroots sports development.
“The plan had earlier attracted scouts and agents last season but due to improper arrangements of the start of the league, the agents can’t make it, but we had two players who traveled to Europe for trials, injury denied Ernest Governor the chance to secure the deal while John Jerome was involved in screening with AB,” he said.
Sule, who stared for AB and hosts of top clubs in the Scandinavian region maintained that Danish based sportswear manufacturing company, Hummel has also produced newly designed kits for both Kogi United and Confluence Queens with new jerseys for the upcoming season adding that collaboration with top Danish women football clubs for the Confluence Queens players.
He however commended the Kogi State Government for the support and encouragement just as promised a successful season for the two state owned clubs to appreciate the government.
“These are part of many plans the management has for both clubs, with the rate of support and backing from the government, and with the structure on ground, sky will be the limit as we pray for a successful season.
Kogi United will be campaigning in the Nigeria National League, NNL next season while Confluence Queens will compete for league title in the apex women football league in the country, the Nigeria Women Premier League, NWPL.
