LASG Shuts Alayabiagba, Iganmu Markets

The Lagos State Government said on Wednesday that it has shut the Alayabiagba and Iganmu markets, both at Orile-Iganmu, for violating environmental laws.

The Marshal-General of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) Brigade, Retired Capt. Danjuma Meigeri, disclosed this in a statement by the Ministry of Information and Strategy.

He said Gov. Babatunde Fashola ordered the closure of the markets when he noticed their filthy condition.

“The governor directed that the markets be closed when he noticed their unhygienic condition, while driving through the area,” Meigeri said.

The KAI boss said the closure would serve as a deterrent to other traders whom, he said, had formed the habit of violating environmental laws.

Meigeri said the markets would remain closed until the government ordered their re-opening.
