Ondo State Peoples Democratic Party hopeful, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) on Thursday assured his supporters of his commitment to the ongoing suit at the
Appeal Court to reclaim his mandate.
Speaking on Skype from Abuja, to a crowd of protesters who thronged his campaign office in Akure, Jegede called for calm, saying he had implicit confidence in the rule of law.
Fielding questions from party members and other supporters, Jegede said, “The matter has been re-assigned and hearing begins tomorrow (today). We had prayed for accelerated hearing and we believe that the case will be decided as soon as legally possible.
“I urge you all to remain peaceful and not allow your peaceful protests to be hijacked for selfish reasons.”
Jegede said he knew his opponents would not stop at anything to slow down the dispensation of justice but that he was not dismayed, knowing that justice would take its course.
The contestant, however, insisted that his advertorials should not be stopped for whatever reason, as the adverts have not contravened the law.
“The adverts must continue because the other person (Jimoh Ibrahim) is a court-ordered candidate. That implies that the case is still in court and his candidature is not final.”
Also, Jegede said he was not averse to agitations for the postponement of the elections in view of the gale of crises that the prevailing circumstances had generated.
But he pleaded, saying, “I want you all my supporters to keep the peace and allow the law to take its course.”
