Margaret Emefiele, Wife of CBN Governor Kidnapped

It was the turn of the family of the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN) Mr. Godwin Emefiele to mark register with the notorious Nigerian gang of

kidnappers on Thursday as his wife, Mrs. Margaret Emefiele fell victim.

Nigerian gangs of kidnappers often snatch foreigners and home folks usually for ransom. What started out as targeted snatching of expertrite oil workers in the South East and South South, has now become regular occurrence around the country.

While most kidnapped victims regain freedom after money must have changed hands, there have been occasions, that the criminals would be paid and cruelly kill the captive.

Reports said that Mrs. Emefiele’s kidnappers were demanding the emptying of the country’s vault before she would be allowed to regain freedom. A source said they were actually asking for a ransom of N1.2billion.

A source close to the Emefiele’s confirmed that the gang did set a price but refused to specify the actual amount.

A Nigerian-American who had the misfortune of being kidnapped and freed in Abuja recently said that Nigeria police personnel often frown at the desire of hapless citizens to go after such gangs without giving in to extortion antics.

Police sources said that most operations that succeeded in the past went without let or hindrance because the criminals were paid whatever was demanded.
