NINE suspected members of the murderous Islamic sect, popularly known as Boko Haram, were killed on Wednesday by a crack team of the Nigerian military operating in Tudun Wada, near the northern city of Kano, according to reports reaching sharpedgenews.com.
Addressing the press in Kano, Army Brigadier General Iliyasu Abba said the suspects were killed in a shootout with army personnel on ground, after the suspects had attacked a local police station and a banked, which they later set on fire prior to fleeing the scene of the attacks.
Two of the suspects were later apprehended by the soldiers who responded to emergency calls from residents who witnessed the events. General Abba said that the suspects had made away with police equipment and ammunitions that included guns, bullet-proof vests and an assortment of ammunition prior to being held.
The members of the sect had only recently released a statement in the form of a video stating that they are intensifying their “war” efforts against “unbelievers”, spurning any current or future deliberation with the Nigerian government and its intermediaries.
In the first three months of the year so far, Boko Haram has killed no less than 200 citizens, including civilians and government security personnel, spurring the Human Rights Watch to raise an alarm about the growing number of brutal casualties.
