FOLLOWING the recent visit of former President Olusegun Obasanjo to Ondo State, Governor Mimiko’s reelection campaign in the state appears ready to repeat its previous defeat of another candidate whom Mr. Obasanjo personally campaigned for in the state.
During a recent visit to Ondo State, the former president made the prediction that the People’s Democratic Party would win Ondo’s October 20 governorship election.
He made the claim on Saturday, August 11, at the rally tagged “Unity Rally” to campaign for governorship candidate of the party, Chief Olusola Oke who was presented with the Peoples DemocraTIC Party flag.
Describing Oke as very credible, the former president urged the people of the state to vote for him.
“I want to start by thanking our brothers and sisters outside Ondo State who have come to flag off the campaign to bring PDP back to the state.
“We have a creditable candidate for Ondo State. Olusola Oke is a good leader that can be taken by his words’’
The former president said he returned to the country the previous night from the U.S. to attend the rally because of the importance attached to it, adding that he was supposed to return on Monday.
Obasanjo urged party members, supporters and the people of the state to vote the PDP in the forthcoming election.
Realities on ground in Ondo State are revealing a different possibility than the belief shared by the former president with the people of the Sunshine State.
There is a palpable air of excitement for Dr. Mimoko’s chances in the forthcoming elections as the governor is said to enjoy strong support of the people for his populist policies since he came on board as governor in 2009.
