– Kidnappers Hold Another Bank Boss in Lagos
The mother of the former chair and managing director of the United Bank for Africa, Mr. Tony Elumelu, was on Wednesday kidnapped by gunmen in Delta State.
Sources within the Delta State Polic e Command told journalists that the elder citizen, who is also a mother to a House of Representative member, Mr. Ndidi Elumelu, was traced to her farm at Isele-Uku in Aniocha North Local Government Area.
The public relations office for Delta State command of the Nigeria Police, Mr. Charles Muka, said that the police are working on locating the woman and her captors with a view to prosecuting them according to the law.
A similar incident in Lagos has left family, friends and authorities searching for the whereabouts of the Regional General Manager of Access bank, Yemi Odunsanya, who remains missing after gunmen kidnapped him on his way to church on Sunday.
It was gathered that gunmen riding in a yet to be ascertained vehicle, double crossed Odunsanya’s car at about 11.00am around Badore area in Ajah and whisked him away to an unknown destination.
Following the abduction, the police deployed a team to the area, where they discovered Odunsanya’s Jeep abandoned few metres from the scene of the abduction.
The police spokesperson, Jayieoba Joseph, confirmed the incident, adding that the entire Police Command had been put on red alert to find the victim.
“As for now we can say this is a case of abduction and the entire Lagos State Police Command has been put on alert in order to rescue the victim,” he said.
“As I am talking to you now, a combined team of policemen, from the Lion building, detectives from the RRS and other plain clothes policemen have been deployed to Ajah and environs to mount surveillance and comb the area until the victim is rescued. The Lagos State Police Command is not leaving any stone unturned in checking crime and criminality in the state.”
In a similar development, the police arrested a notorious kidnapper in the state.
The police spokesperson gave the name of the “notorious” kidnapper as Emmanuel Nwangwu, and said the suspect allegedly connived with his wife, a Ghanaian identified as Patricia Abena, to kidnap more than five persons in different parts of the state.
According to Joseph, the suspects kidnapped the son of Folarin Coker, an ex-deputy chief of staff to the Lagos state government and collected a ransom of N22million. They were also behind the kidnap of the daughter of Afam Edozie, a director of MTN in 2009. $100,000 was paid as ransom for her.
He disclosed that they are being investigated.
