Mr. Obama’s Mandate with Destiny

by Bayo Oluwasanmi

Old ways die hard.

Between 1900 and 1935 two thousand African Americans were lynched by whites. Less than one percent of whites who committed the atrocity were arrested and convicted.

No other racial group like African Americans in the history of United States has endured as much rejection toward acceptance. In many ways, African Americans have struggled to cope with racial demons.

In his book “The Rage of a Privileged Class” sub-titled “Why are middle-class blacks angry? Why should America care?” Ellis Cose quoting former New York Mayor David Dinkins, reminds us of the racial demons that African Americans confront daily: “A white man with a million dollars is a millionaire, and a black man with a million dollars is a nigger with a million dollars.”

Here we’re in 2012 in the age of diversity, multiculturalism, and much vaunted melting pot, with the election of Mr. Obama as the first African American President, the flowering of racial resentment is fertilized with waterfall of unjustified anger and misplaced cornucopia of discontent by the GOP and its talking heads.

Right from the outset, the choice before the American people between Obama and Romney couldn’t have been made easier given the different backgrounds, values, beliefs, and ideologies of the two candidates.

Obama from poverty background understands the common men and women. He believes in fairness, level plain field, equal pay for equal work, shared sacrifice, compassion for the weak, the needy, the poor, the feeble, pro-choice, pro-labor, and pro-immigrant.

The Democratic Party as a progressive party champions greater acceptance, greater diversity, greater tolerance and inclusion.

Romney and the GOP stand for everything that is the opposite of the truth.

Romney wants Americans to believe that two and two are three that water freezes when it gets hot and boils when it gets cold, or any other nonsense that might seem to serve his political interest.

The GOP is more white, more old, more male, more rural, and full of religious liars.

“The Republican Party,” says an MNSBC analyst, “is a madmen party that doesn’t fit modern American.” This is the true identity of the GOP.

The compelling 51% popular votes and 332 electoral votes garnered by President Obama guaranteed his return ticket to the White House. It was a smooth sail.

Take a look at the intimidating exit polls stats: 935 African Americans, 87% unmarried women, 71% Latinos, and 60% of young people between the ages 18-29 voted for Mr. Obama.

President Obama’s victory was a repudiation of right wing crazy bozos.

The decisive victory of President Obama for second term re-ignites the comical routine and subversive gimmicks of the right wing extremists and racists.

The Republicans hate him, rate him, shake him, and they want to break him!

Mired in delusions of grandeur of twisted pain of electoral loss Republicans continued their diabolical reverse psychology against the outcome of the elections. They have no relationship with reality.

The Obama victory has thrown the GOP into overdrive of confusion – identity crisis and multiple personality disorder.

The right wing media with its unashamed and undeterred obstinate heretics continued their bursts of potvaliancy full of tortured vision of bigotry and racism.

The vehement harangues against President Obama stem from the animosity of white people who believed they’re superior morally, intellectually, and physically to African Americans.

The depraved bigots and hate mongers who badgered President Obama relentlessly in his first term resumed their campaign of calumny with shameless relish.

The Republicans with insistent galling rage opened their mouths and polluted the air. Their throats are gaping graves. Their tongues as slick as mud slides. Every word they speak is a stench with poison.

Like the Christians they profess to be, a surgery of the soul and the therapy of discipline will be necessary for Republicans to accept the new meaning of President Obama’s re-election victory- mandate with destiny.

A blogger on Face Book has rightly consoled the Republicans with satirical humor:  “… the good news for the Republicans is that Obama will remain a Black man for the next four years!” In other words, like it or not, they’ll have to deal with the president they had wished for only one term.

Swimming in a sea of admitted ignorance, Romney accused President Obama that he (Obama) won the election because of the goodies and “gifts” doled out to his coalition base.

If the election had gone Romney’s way, the priorities of his administration would have been an elegy written in this format: self-deportation, Obama Care repealed, Row vs. Wade repealed, tax shelter for the rich, tax hike for the poor and the middle class, Bush tax extended, Planned Parenthood abolished, energy department scrapped, social security privatized, Medicare and Medicaid voucherized, cuts in college grants, food stamps, unemployment income, and cut in all social safety net programs that  cater for the poor, children, and seniors.

Mr. Obama’s coast to victory is a mandate intricately linked to the destiny of the constituency of the poor, immigrants, women, labor, and other coalition of marginalized minorities.

Basking in the sunshine of victory and fully aware of his mandate of destiny, he declared:

“Tonight, in this election, you, the American people, reminded us that while our road has been hard, while our journey has been long, we have picked ourselves up, we have fought our way back, and we know in our hearts that for the United States of America the best is yet to come.”

Believing that his first term agenda is far from being attained, with deep sense of purpose, he assured the American people:

“America, I believe we can build on the progress we’ve made and continue to fight for new jobs and new opportunity and new security for the middle class…It doesn’t matter whether you’re black or white, or Hispanic or Asian or Native American, young or old or rich or poor, able, disabled, gay or straight, you can make it here in America if you’re willing to try.”

And finally, claiming the mandate for the next four years to shape the destiny of those who propelled him into office, he said:

“…And with your stories and struggles, I return to the White House more determined and more inspired than ever about the work there is to do and the future that lies ahead.”

If there was any lesson that Mr. Obama learned in his first term is that he compromised too much, he gave too much, he bent too much, and he was too nice to the GOP.

Evil never sleeps, and so good must not take a vacation. The Republicans are out to frustrate him. They’re out to deny him his historic place among the greatest American Presidents.

This time around, he’ll be wise to resist to his teeth not to compromise the mandate of destiny thrust upon him by the people. After all, he has nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Anything short of general amnesty for 12 million illegal immigrants will be disheartening.

Bush tax must go. Tax hike for the rich non-negotiable. Thanks goodness, Obama Care has come to stay.

Medicare/Medicaid and social security must be protected from any form of raid by the GOP. Any form of obstruction in the way of job creation programs must be fought to a standstill.

Mr. President, F O R W A R D!
