The General Manager, Norther Operations, of MTN, Hajia Amina Usman, has said the telecommunications giant remains a catalyst
to Nigeria’s growth and economic development.
Usman, who made the disclosure during a recent capacity development programme, for select Journalists organized by NECCI, a Public Relations (PR) firm in Abuja, acknowledged that the history of SMEs and blue chip companies cannot be written without the contributory role played by MTN.
While underscoring MTN’s business integrity, she said, the company is built on trust and ethics, explaining further it will not relinquish, compromise or devalue such ethics: “Integrity is one of our core values that we truly cherish. Our rules are geared toward suiting these new norms.” she said.
She advised members of the fourth estate of the realm to be painstaking while insisting on facts to properly align to the story they are writing. Usman added that MTN is proud to be a major contributor to Nigeria’s economic development.
In her remarks, the Principal Consultant, Mrs. Nkechi Ali-Balogun, the organizers of the programme, also urged the media to give priority attention to ethics in the discharge of their duties and responsibilities to national development.
A veteran Journalist, former editorial board Chairman of the Guardian newspaper and presently back page contributor to THISDAY newspaper, Dr. Okey Okechukwu, while admonishing the media on the good leadership qualities and organization culture, said both features remain enablers to effective media practice and growth.
Other topics treated included: language skills in communication, social skills for journalists, musical media and perception management, techniques for data reporting, crisis communication and the new media among others.
