Murder of Students by Terrorists ‘Heartless and Unjustifiable’ – Borno Govt

THE Borno State government in north-east Nigeria confirmed the killing of five pupils in last Monday’s multiple attacks

on public schools in Maiduguri.

Some suspected terrorists had raided some primary and secondary schools in Maiduguri while students were sitting for the National Examination Council exams, a final exam that high school students take before their graduation.

Prof. Tijani Abba the state’s Commissioner for Basic Education stated this while speaking with newsmen in Maiduguri, pointing out that the victims included six elementary school teachers.

Abba pointed out that the victims also included six primary schools teachers.

He said that government had adopted measures to prevent future occurrences of the attacks.

“It was really sad that the hoodlums successfully attacked the schools killing innocent souls.

“This heartless and unjustifiable killing will not be allowed to continue because it will have a negative impact on the education sector of the state,” Abba said.

He said that government had directed all the 27 Local Government Councils in the state to provide security for both students and teachers in schools.

According to Abba, the Bauchi State government had spent about N140 million on the repairs of nearly 50 primary schools burned down by suspected terrorists in both Northern and Central Senatorial zones of the state.

He said that government had also initiated partnership with communities and other stakeholders toward safeguarding schools structures against such attacks.
